Emery prepares Valencia for Madrid encounter

Emery yesterday kept the players untill 8:30pm working on training sessions designed to avoid a repeat of last season. In April Mourinho’s squad shredded Valencia in from of a packed home crowd 3-6.

Emery’s strategy involves limiting Real Madrid’s space creation which will restrict their speed and ability to launch fast forward attacks.

Until Wednesday afternoon with the return on Valencia’s 7 international players the final lineup and strategy will not be decided. However Unai has let on to what he wants from his players.. during a training excersize he was overheard telling his players to practice closing down and forming lines of defence and keeping close man on man pressure.

Last season Real Madrid was up 5 nil int he first 53 minutes.

The Valencia Defence was torn to pieces.

The lack of intensity and concentration and glaring defensive errors were the principle cause in allowing Benzema, Higuain and Kaka large amount of space from which to launch their lethal attacks.

Speed and counter attack were the main weapons in Madrid’s arsenal according to Emery.

Emery drilled the players that on saterday defensive concentration involving a closing down of passing lanes towards goal.

Though the absence of Di Maria (leading assists in la liga) will be a relief to defend on the right wing, the Valencia coach insisted on the necesity to train hard this week on maintaining a high level of defensive concentration.

Only that way, coupled with aggresive pressire and cohesive lines will they be able to close down open spaces and limit the play making ability of a team that currently has 39 goals in 11 games.

Without a doubt, to beat Madrid, and intense solid back line must be matched by forward play making.

Expect Emery to play a Valencia squad which will attempt to hold on to possesion, avoid losing the ball and fall back to defend quickly to avoid Mourinho’s counterattack.

The defence’s priority will be to play zonal defence with defensive midfield falling back to cover pressure.. steal the ball and exploit the one weak point in Madrid, their defence.. especially on Marcelo’s side.

Unai held several quick counter attack strategies.

Tino Costa will be expected to add his flair for direct football that he showed off in the 2 nil victory over Levante a teamthat earlier in the season beat Madrid.

Unai Emery is convinced that his team will show a mental strength far superior to last season. Citing Valencia’s solid performances against Barca (2-2) and Chelsea (1-1)

Bartra on the radar

If FC Barca does not renew Marc Bartra… Valencia will try to sign him.
The cule defender’s contract ends next June 30 but is in full negotiations to renew with Barca. His Agent Diaz, who also represents Valencia defender Victor Ruiz has informed the Valencian club that the logical move would be a renewal.
However, up until now no contract has been signed and with Barcelona hunting in the international market for defenders the chances of minutes for the young defender seem slim.
Valencia have made contact with the players agent about the possible move. Though Diaz claims that his player is the target of several other top clubs.

Bartra, who has partnered with another Valencia player Sergio Canales with the U21 Spanish National Team, is a defender known for excellent ball control and passing skill.

Also powerful in the air he is an asset the Catalans will not be quick to lose.

For the footballer, the economic issue is not the most important thing at this moment and Valencia can offer a chance of Champions League football for a player who is currently languishing on the reserve team
Victor Ruiz and Rami for the remainder of the season will continue to serve the axis of lagging behind, but there is uncertainty about the future of Ricardo Costa and Dealbert as their contracts near their ends.

The future of the players’  contract which expires June 30 are still not set, Barcelona has decided to leave the rest of the negociations for the new year.

His Agent Diaz claims that while his player is one of the hot young prospects right now his relations with Valencia CF are excellent and therfore Valencia are in an excellent position to possibly secure the players signature.

Only time will tell.

Jordi Alba close to a new contract amid Barca interest.

It would seem Jordi Alba has become a hot property lately.

Sports papers in Catalunya are reporting the the young Catalan player is the latest target of Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola is very keen to reinforce his left flank in the comming season and Alba is in top form.

This has prompted the Valencia club to tie down the player with a tight contract as soon as possible.

Reports indicate that contract negotiations are at an advanced state with Braulio and LLorente agreeing to a pay increase with a high buyout clause potentially in the range of 30 million euroes.

The new contract could run until 2017.

Alba received his first call-up to the spanish national side  on 30 September 2011 for the last two qualifiers, against the Czechs and the Scotish national sides.  He made his debut in the latter game on 11 October, a 3–1 win  in which his cut back from the left wing provided the assist  for the opening goal, scored by former Valencia team mate David Silva his impressive debut confirmed his status as a strong candidate to be the long-term successor of  Capdevilla as the regular left back for the national team.

Javier De Roque

Ricardo Costa Unhappy

The Portuguese international, 30, said about a news article about him being offered to Español.

“I didn’t want to believe it when I saw it [the story]. It is ridiculous. It is a lie and I think Valencia will deny it. What`s more, I hope they do so before I go back after the international break because it will show they don’t say one thing to me and another to other people.”

“If this news is true then he would have offered Espanyol the chance to buy me and that didn’t happen. He is the same person who stopped me going to Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus a month ago. He said then I was an important player for the squad and that I was one of the captains. It is him I believe and not ridiculous and sensational news.”

He later added when asked about his lack of playtime sice being subbed off at halftime in Valencia’s first match.

“Firstly, you must remember I was substituted when the team had let in two goals with me on the pitch, so when Racing scored their third I wasn’t there. Secondly, I remember the game well and don’t remember playing alone.

“Was it Valencia that let the two goals in or was it Ricardo Costa? I played in the first half and Racing continued to create chances in the second. Also, there have been games when we could have let in as many if not more than we did against Racing, and I wasn’t on the pitch.”

When asked if he beleived Emery has lost confidence in him:

“I honestly don’t understand this story and don’t believe the Coach has lost confidence in me. In fact, I’ve don’t know if he has confidence in me or not because I’ve not spoken to him about it to ask him, “he added.”
